Cartoon Diary, Day 037

I saw Wall-E with my friends Frankie & Lissette yesterday. It was typical Pixar picture - extremely creative & terrifically entertaining. It's amazing how the Pixar folks can give computer animation the spark of life. Having worked for a video game developer for 7 years, I've seen how tough that can be.

I knew I'd do my July 4th cartoon about Wall-E, but I didn't have a good idea for it until this morning, when I remembered a certain reviled character from the 1978 Fantastic Four cartoon. If you don't remember H.E.R.B.I.E., you can find out more about him at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.E.R.B.I.E.

Hey, John. Found a link here through Comic Book Urban Legends. Remember me from back in Hughes Hall? (Hope so, or I'll feel like a dork). If you don't, I was Andrew's roommate '92-'93. Anyway, I've enjoyed what I've seen of your work on here, and I'd like to chat about comics sometime. You can find an e-mail through my blogger profile.

It was H.E.R.B.I.E instead of the Human Torch, right? Why the hell did Stan Lee allow THAT?

From what I understand, the Human Torch was licensed to Universal for a possible TV movie, so it wouldn't have been possible to feature the Torch on the show.
